Josh Phillips

Drums, Percussion & Vocals

Josh is the glue that holds the Highway 31 sound together.

Josh got his start in music a little different than most. He was mostly self-taught and didn’t really get serious until his junior year in high school. Mostly playing along with songs on his CD player and occasionally a few like-minded musicians in his bedroom or at his local church.

Upon graduation from school, Josh enlisted in the United States Marine Corp to serve his country. After Boot Camp and combat training, Josh was offered a chance to become a Marine Corps musician and underwent a rigorous 8-month musical training program at the Armed Forces School of Music. It was during this time Josh’s passion for music was pushed to new heights.

“The Armed Forces School of Music was my first experience at being a ‘Schooled Musician’. It took a lot of hard work to get myself to their expected high level of playing in such a short amount of time. I learned everything in 8 months, from reading music, to playing in different bands ranging from jazz-band to marching-band and concert-band to name a few. “

After completing 4 years of honorable service, Josh moved back to his home state of Texas where he’s continued to play music with various artists and churches, both live and recording.

In 2014, while in a recording session, Josh met Steve Mueller (Highway 31 founder/guitarist/songwriter) who was on the same session. Little did he know that a year later Steve would call upon him to complete the lineup for Highway 31.

Josh has been accredited and endorsed by some of the music industry’s best companies, such as Sabian Cymbals, Los Cabos Drumsticks and Cympad.
